APNEA JERSEY OPEN SPEARFISHING
BASS COMPETITION SUNDAY 24th
AUGUST 2003 About the
Competition
The competition will take place on Sunday 24th August 2003 and is open to all Spearfishermen. Only catches of Bass will be eligible for the competition however divers will be allowed to catch any other species they wish to. Competitors will be allowed to choose 1 out of 4 specified venues to fish which are :- · Corbiere · L’Etacq · La Rocque · Bonne Nuit Bay The participant will only be allowed to dive the venue specified at registration however will be allowed to switch to the alternative venue stated in case of adverse weather conditions. Alternative venues are as follows :- For Corbiere – Bonne Nuit Bay For L’Etacq – La Rocque For La Rocque – L’Etacq For Bonne Nuit Bay – Corbiere In the event that there is a failure for anyone to register to dive at a particular venue i.e. Bonne Nuit Bay – that particular venue will be cancelled and withdrawn from the options accordingly Due to the nature of this type of competition there will be strict time guidelines to the signing in process and the times specified below will apply :- 1. Competitors must register between Monday 18th August to Saturday 23rd August at Apnea, 78 Bath Street, St Helier (shop opening times 9.30am to 5.00pm) 2. Venue – on arrival at the chosen venue the competitor will be required to sign in (an official of the competition will be present to check that the competitor is complying with the general rules of the competition) Signing in times will be as follows :- · Corbiere – 8.30am - 9.00am – Participants can start at 8.45am · L’Etacq – 8.30am - 9.00am – Participants can start at 8.45am · La Rocque – 7.45am - 8.45am – Participants can start at 8.00am · Bonne Nuit Bay – 8.30am - 9.00am – Participants can start at 8.45am COMPETITORS MUST SIGN IN DURING THE TIMES STATED – FAILURE TO DO SO WILL RESULT IN DISQUALIFICATION 3. The competitor will then be allowed to fish the venue until 4.30pm where on exit he will be required to sign out and then make his way to the Union Inn, Mont A L’Abbe for the official weigh-in. If all divers have exited the water before 4.30pm then it will be deemed the end of the competition for that venue. 4. The official weigh-in will commence at 4.30pm and finish at 6.00pm promptly at the Union Inn, Mont A L’Abbe. Trophies

Best overall catch of Bass (weight) Cash Prizes

Best Bass (Heaviest) - £100 2
2nd Best Bass - £50 3
3rd Best Bass - £25 4
Best overall catch of Bass (weight) - £50 Entry Fee
Entrance fee to the competition will be £10.00 which will include a free BBQ at the Union Inn – tickets for the BBQ for non-competitors will be £5.00. All entrance fees are non-refundable. General Rules
The following rules will apply :- 1 Competitors must be a minimum age of 16 years and competent snorkellers 2 All divers enter the competition at their own risk 3 Competitors must use a surface marker buoy 4 Competitors must have registered to be part of the competition at APNEA by the close of business (5.00pm) on Saturday 23rd August 2003. No registrations will be allowed on the day unless specific arrangements have been previously agreed with the competition organisers 5 Competitors will only be allowed to dive the venue selected at registration – they will not be permitted to change venue on the day with the exception of the back up venue applicable to that dive site. Competitors however will be able to change venue by advising APNEA by 12.00am at the latest on Saturday 23rd August. 6 All Competitors must enter and exit the competition by foot as specified by the official present at their named venue on the day. The use of boats or any other form of transport will not be permitted 7 Only Bass will be included as eligible fish and must be a minimum length of 40cm. 8 Any diver landing a fish deemed to be under the legal size of 36cm as specified by the States of Jersey Department of Agriculture and Fisheries will be disqualified irrelevant if other Bass have been caught by the individual 9 All Competitors will be allowed to keep any fish caught 10 All entrants must sign in by the specified time at each venue. Late entrants to their nominated competition venue will be disqualified from participating in the competition 11 Any diver who fails to exit the water and sign out by 4.30pm will be disqualified 12 Only fish presented at the Union Inn for official weigh-in will be eligible for the competition ALL DIVERS ARE REMINDED THAT
